Zardozi – Embroidered Seahorse – Christmas Ornament

These unique Christmas decorations are made the use of the traditional method of zardozi embroidery.
Zardozi comes from two Persian words: zar or zarin meaning ‘gold’, and dozi meaning ‘sewing’ and originated in Persia and reached India within the 12th century.
This can be a highly skilled embroidery technique that traditionally used gold wires and jewels to embellish courtly robes.
Here those same techniques are used to great effect in producing fine Christmas ornaments.
There are a limited choice of such skilled artisans nowadays who can create these challenging pieces.
